Sport Psychology in South Wales: What Support Can Actually Look Like

Sport psychology is more than mental skills

Sport psychology can support performance and wellbeing, but the work does not have to begin with techniques. Athletes perform within relationships, environments, expectations and identities. Understanding that wider context can help make psychological support relevant to the person rather than forcing every athlete into the same programme.

Who can benefit?

Support can be useful for individual athletes, teams, coaches, parents and sporting organisations. Common conversations include performing under pressure, confidence, identity, motivation, communication, team culture, transitions, injury experiences, values and how someone wants to approach their sport.

My approach

I am Adriano Muhlbauer, a Sport and Exercise Psychologist in Training and founder of Perform With Courage. My work is existentially informed. Rather than treating an athlete as a problem to fix, I aim to understand their experience, the choices available to them and what matters to them. Psychological skills can still be used when appropriate, but they are not automatically the starting point.

Support across South Wales and online

Perform With Courage works with athletes, teams, coaches and organisations across South Wales, with online support also available. The aim is not to create dependence on a psychologist. It is to help people understand themselves, make informed choices and develop ways of responding that they can carry into their own sporting lives.

Taking the first step

If you are unsure whether sport psychology is relevant to you, the first conversation can simply explore what is happening, what you want from your sport and whether working together makes sense. Visit Perform With Courage to book a consultation.
