Psychological support within sport

Sport psychology can help people explore both performance and the human experience behind performance. Pressure, expectations, selection, mistakes, confidence, relationships and identity can all shape how an athlete experiences training and competition.

For athletes

Individual work can explore what happens before, during and after performance, how the athlete interprets difficult moments, what matters to them and how they want to respond. The aim is to develop greater awareness and ownership rather than simply handing the athlete a list of techniques.

For teams and clubs

Team support can include identity, shared values, agreed behaviours, communication, leadership and the culture created at training and competition. Workshops can be followed by observation and continued conversations so that ideas discussed away from the pitch are connected to everyday behaviour.

For coaches

Coaches shape much of the psychological environment athletes experience. Support can therefore include coach CPD, reflective conversations, psychologically informed practice and exploration of how values and intentions translate into coaching behaviour.
